Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. There are different types of sedation options. Your level of sedation will be determined after consultation with our prosthodontists.

General Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically used for more complex and invasive procedures. During general anesthesia, you are completely unconscious and unaware, as though in a deep sleep. An experienced nurse anesthetist remains with you throughout to keep a close watch on your safety. After the procedure is over, you may need a few hours to fully recover and regain consciousness before going home.
IV Sedation: For less complex and minimally invasive procedures, IV sedation may be an option. IV sedation provides a moderate sedation level that can be adjusted during the procedure. You will still be conscious and able to communicate and follow instructions, but you won’t be as aware of what’s happening around you. Typically, you will wake up fairly quickly after the procedure and can go home soon afterward.
Why would someone require sedation treatment?
Individuals who may be anxious or require extensive dental treatment may benefit from sedation treatment. Our prosthodontists may recommend sedation if they believe it will help you feel more comfortable during your visit. If you are interested in learning more about the sedation options available, our friendly staff would be happy to discuss them with you in more detail.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Sedation is generally safe for most people. However, it is important to talk to your prosthodontist to make sure you are a good candidate for sedation to avoid any potential complications. Our team has prioritized extensive training to ensure patient safety for sedation treatments.
